Il nome del vaccino russo, Sputnik, rimanda a un altro grande successo sovietico, che è la conquista dello spazio.


Tanta è la fama dell’allunaggio, e delle teorie complottiste ad esso legato, che tendiamo a dimenticarci che furono i sovietici i primi a inviare con successo un satellite intorno all’orbita terrestre, il satellite Sputnik appunto.

Fu poi sullo Sputnik 2 che fu inviata nello spazio per la prima volta una forma di vita, la cagnolina Laika. Era il 1957.

Curiosamente quest’episodio è molto noto, forse per la simpatia che suscitano gli animali o per la triste sorte di Laika, che sopravvisse poche ore dal lancio.

Non si sa perché i russi optarono per un cane come prima forma di vita da mandare nello spazio. Forse per le sue ridotte dimensioni.
